Trap-assisted decay spectroscopy with ISOLTRAP
2012
Penning traps are excellent high-precision mass spectrometers for radionuclides. The high-resolving power used for cleaning isobaric and even isomeric contaminants can be exploited to improve decay-spectroscopy studies by delivering purified samples. An apparatus allowing trap-assisted decay spectroscopy has been coupled to the ISOLTRAP mass spectrometer at ISOLDE/CERN. The results from studies with stable and radioactive ions show that the setup can be used to perform decay studies on purified short-lived nuclides and to assist mass measurements. The decay of 31 sec98Zr, 2.9 sec98Nb and 51 min98Nb
1976
TheΒ- andγ-radiations of98Zr and98m, g Nb have been investigated employing scintillation and semiconductor spectrometers and coincidence techniques. Sources of98Nb were produced by the98Mo(n, p)98Nb reaction, sources of98Zr by fission of235U with thermal neutrons applying chemical separations. For98Zr, a half-life of 30.7±0.4 sec and aQ β-value of 2.3±0.2 MeV were obtained, for the98Nb isomers, half-lives of 2.86±0.06 sec and 51.3±0.4 min, andQ β-values of 4.8±0.2 MeV and 4.5±0.2 MeV, respectively. Noγ-rays were observed in the decay of98Zr. The decay of 2.9 sec98Nb was found to involve 11γ-ray transitions. In the decay of 51 min98Nb, 54γ-transitions were detected. Spin and parity of 1+ and…
The decay of 8.7 min237Pa
1974
The beta and gamma radiations of237Pa have been investigated employing semiconductor and scintillation spectrometers and coincidence techniques. Sources of237Pa were obtained after bombardments of238U with bremsstrahlung and 14-MeV neutrons and subsequent chemical separation. From the total of 18γ-rays following the decay of 8.7±0.2 min237Pa 17 transitions, representing 99.9% of theγ-ray intensity, could be placed in a level scheme of237U. AQ β- value of 2.25±0.1 MeV has been determined.
Der Zerfall des93Sr
1972
The nucleide93Sr was isolated by chemical separation methods after thermal neutron induced fission of235U, and its decay properties were investigated employing scintillation and semiconductor spectrometers and coincidence techniques. A half-life of 7.43±0.03 min and aQβ-value of 4.3±0.2 MeV were found. Out of 74 gamma-rays, 55 transitions, representing 97% of the observed gamma-ray intensity, could be placed in a decay scheme comprising 22 excited states of93Y.
Der Zerfall des 2,4-sec100Nb
1972
The nuclide100Nb was produced by irradiation of enriched100Mo targets with 14 MeV-neutrons, and its decay properties were investigated employing scintillation and semiconductor spectrometers and coincidence techniques. A half-life of 2.4±0.3 sec and aQ β-value of 5.8±0.2 MeV were found. From 27 gamma-rays, 20 transitions, representing 95% of the observed gamma-ray intensity, could be placed in a decay scheme comprising 10 excited states of100Mo.
A dedicated decay-spectroscopy station for the collinear resonance ionization experiment at ISOLDE
2013
A newdecay-spectroscopystation(DSS)has been developed to be coupled to the collinear resonance ionization spectroscopy (CRIS) beam line at CERN-ISOLDE. The system uses a rotatable wheel with ten 20 mg=cm2 carbon foils as beam implantation sites for the efficient measurement of charged decay products. Silicon detectors are placed on either side of the carbon foil in an optimal geometry to cover a large solid angle for detecting these charged particles. In addition to the silicon detectors at the on-beam axis position, a second pair of off-beam axis detectors are placed at the wheel position 108 deg. away, allowing longer-lived species to be studied. Up to three high purity germanium detector…
Beta Decay of 111Tc to 111Ru
1998
The β-decay of the very neutron-rich 111Tc nucleus has been observed. A partial decay scheme of 111Ru is presented, complementing the high-spin levels earlier reported in spontaneous fission work.
Total absorption γ-ray spectroscopy of beta delayed neutron emitters
2013
Preliminary results of the data analysis of the beta decay of 94Rb using a novel - segmented- total absorption spectrometer are shown in this contribution. This result is part of a systematic study of important contributors to the decay heat problem in nuclear reactors. In this particular case the goal is to determine the beta intensity distribution below the neutron separation energy and the gamma/beta competition above.
High-resolution studies of beta-delayed proton emitters at IGISOL facility
1998
Beta-decays of23Al and41Ti have been studied by applying ion guide techniques, gamma detection and a gas-Si telescope for charged-particle detection. The experimental beta-decay strength of41Ti was found to be quenched by a factor ofq2 = 0.64 compared to our shell model calculations below 8 MeV excitation energy in41Sc. This result is in line with the generally accepted value ofq = 0.77. The isobaric analogue state of the41Ti ground state was measured to contain 10(8)% isospin impurity. This relatively high value could be well reproduced by the shell model calculation in thesdfp space. Gamma-decay of theT = 3/2 isobaric analogue state in23Mg was observed together with its decay by proton em…
Penning-trap-assisted study of 115Ru beta decay
2011
The beta decay of 115Ru has been studied by means of Penning-trap-assisted beta and gamma spectroscopy at the IGISOL facility. The level scheme of 115Rh has been substantially extended and compared with the level systematics of lighter rhodium isotopes. Tentative candidates for three states of the deformed K = 1/2 band have been suggested. The beta-strength distribution of the beta decay of 115Ru differs from the beta decays of 111, 113, 113mRu isotopes due to non-observation of the 3-quasiparticle states in 115Rh. The decay properties of 115Ru indicate a spin-parity of (3/2+ for its beta-decaying ground state. In addition, possible Nilsson states as well as the shape and spin transitions i…
